Everyone who visited Southern California’s Disney California Adventure and Disneyland was completely shaken when thirty-five rides were closed temporarily due to a nearby minor earthquake.
An earthquake of 3.5 magnitudes hit Fullerton, located in Orange County, around two miles from the Disney parks post eight on Monday evening, as per the U.S. Geological Survey. A relatively lighter aftershock followed from 8:30 p.m. Over 2,800 people at the time reported feeling the strike, as per USGS.
No initial injuries or damage were reported at either of the theme parks, but the earthquakes did cause plenty of inconvenience for all the guests who had arrived, hoping to ride their favorites, including the Matterhorn Bobsleds, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Space Mountain. Moreover, the brand-new Adventureland Treehouse and the holiday version of the ‘It’s a Small World’ attraction were also shut down.
Most of the attractions were shutdown by nine on Monday evening, as per Disneyland’s app. Disneyland kept only the Mad Tea Party and Jungle Cruise attractions open, while the adjacent California Adventure kept the Mater’s Jingle Jamboree, Luigi’s Joy to the Whirl, Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind, and Mickey’s PhilharMagic open.
Cars Land’s Radiator Springs Racers, Toy Story Midway Mania, and Incredicoaster are among the rides that were closed temporarily at Disney California Adventure.
Elise Delamare, a photographer from Napa, took to Instagram to say, “3.5 Earthquake hit when we were in line at Winnie The Pooh, and everything is down now. They are telling us after safety protocols are passed, they’ll open them back up.”The employees had to get the guests out of rides as a part of the safety precautions as per the Orange County Register. As of Tuesday afternoon, the majority of rides are functioning, while two rides (Jungle Cruise and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance) were still facing temporary closures.
